Masturbation is rooted in lust

For me the central reason is rooted in lust. I cannot masturbate without lusting. Lust is clearly defined as a sinful act in scripture so if lusting is wrong and I lust while I masturbate then I deduce that masturbation is wrong.

The second reason that masturbation is wrong would come from a passage out of 1 Corinthians 6:18-19, it speaks of sexual sin being committed against my own body and that my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit; in essence the place where God resides is in my body. (Read on …)

1. Masturbation can be the vehicle whereby the inhibited person maintains their propensity to remain self-contained and in need of no one. It deepens the trenches of loneliness, self-pity and self-centeredness.

2. Masturbation is a turning in on one’s self - a narcissistic neurosis that feeds introspection and other dysfunctional directions. This kind of inwardly focused life robs people of the fullness of life that Christ came to give. (Read on …)

I was raised in a very violent home with a father who was an extreme rageaholic and a mother who was an expert at guilt motivation. I lived in absolute terror of my father. There was no nurturing and no opportunity to work through the weekly horrors of my home. It was understood that what was going on in our family was not to be shared with anyone outside the home. As a small boy, I had no coping mechanism for what I was experiencing. It was too much for my tender emotions. So I just shut down emotionally and had very low self-esteem. From what I can gather, my dad cheated on my mom on several occasions while traveling for his work. My first exposure to pornography that I recall was when I was left home to baby-sit my younger brothers. I began snooping around in my parents belongings and came across some hand written sexual stories they had hidden in their closet. That was the beginning. After that, every time I was left to care for my brothers I would snoop around to see if I could find more things-and I did. It seems my dad was always bringing home some book or magazine he had acquired at work.. No matter where he hid them, I found them. (Read on …)

Self-gratification is addictive. If that were not so, quitting would not be a problem. I tried to quit many times over the years and failed miserably. It wasn’t until I asked for God’s to help me quit that I began to enjoy victory and success. God helped me to learn that my addiction to masturbation was the result of deeper causes. (Read on …)
