Some Worthy Goals for the Year

The new year is here; but, the question is, “Will it be new for you?”  Will you decide to do something about the problems that you have been avoiding for so long?  I know that I let my problems with sexual compulsions slide for many years.  Fifteen of them went by in the blink of an eye before I finally realized that it wasn’t going to stop unless I did something for myself.  For each of those fifteen years I kept thinking that I’d do something about my miserable problem with pornography.  And I would do something about it and stop for a while.  The problem was that I couldn’t stay stopped!  But now a year and a half have passed and I’ve been free of something I thought might hold me prisoner for the rest of my life.  If you want to be delivered from your sexual addictions, I’d like to propose some worthy goals for you and suggest some actions steps you might take. The Addictive Personality

Personality

There is a lot of controversy about whether or not there is such thing as an addictive personality. Like most things in the social sciences, absolutes are hard to come by and direct cause and effect relationships usually account for little, if any, of the variance accounted for in research studies. However, people who work with those day in and day out find tend to find qualitative similarities among addicts. These similarities are not universal but occur common enough that they should be mentioned. Thus, I’ll share some of them with you. (Read on …)

Where Are You in the Addictive Process?

SA Book

For those of us who suffer from sexual compulsions, we tend to feel isolated and alone. We do what we do in secret and don’t talk about it. We worry about being found out. We worry what is going to happen to us next. It remains our dirty little secret. What we would learn if we would begin to come forward and seek help is that sexual addiction is a highly researched area of study. Much is known about it and there are many places and organizations who want to help. You might be surprised how many are available in your community.

If you want to know what stage you may be in for your compulsive behavior no better description exists than the process outlined in the SA manual known as the white book. Those of us who have found ourselves in this addictive process can testify to its accuracy. If you resist the temptation to deny your problem, you can easily see where you are and where you are headed–if you don’t seek qualified help. The hope and prayer of the men of the Purity Project is that you ask us for help before you find yourself well along in this cycle. But, no matter where you are, we stand ready to help you. In the Begining There Are Three Steps

I can’t,

God can,

I think I’ll let him.

Let me begin this post by admitting that I have had a lifelong struggle with pornography and had, what I would consider, a very serious problem with it for fifteen years.  By God’s grace, I have been totally free and delivered for more than a year and a half.  Now that isn’t a long time by some standards; but, for those of us who have tried to be free of these addictions and compulsions it is nothing short of a miracle.  I didn’t do this on my own and I cannot take any credit for the fact that I am now enjoying the freedom I have today.  God did this work in me because he is merciful and desires to show you and others that his power can do what seems impossible to us.  God wants to reach down into the pit we are in and deliver us from the terrible guilt, shame and blame that we feel.  This purpose of this post is to share with you the beginnings of my journey that began almost two years ago.
